Foreign lands where they tread,
Deep blue seas where prows break,
Sun rises and sets on mountain peaks
They are far from home,
And we give thanks
To those who give today;
So we may be free.
We give thanks for the brave,
Who shoulder arms,
To give their all, so that their children
Know peace.
Men and women,
Fathers, brothers, sisters
And Mothers.
Whose sacrifice is oft
Forgotten save by those
Left home with an empty seat
When the Thanksgiving feast begins.
Whose eyes turn towards
Home; where they gather,
with family in cherished memory,
They give thanks in silence
That they face the dark so that others
Won’t.
It is to these, the Airmen,
Guardsmen, Soldiers,
Sailors and Marines,
I give thanks, on this day.
And pray for those
In harm’s way.
God Bless and protect you all.
